Acoustic foam panel: size and material

Each item is a single panel 50 cm wide and 200 cm long, which appears rolled up in the photos. The surface is 1 m². The thickness depends on the variant: 2 cm or 3.5 cm. Some supplier images show “2/3 cm”, while the description and the variants show 3.5 cm: the value written in the variant name applies. The material is an acoustic sponge with a round-bump surface, a design that resembles an egg box. The pack contains only the panel.

How to fit the self-adhesive panel

The back has an adhesive layer covered by kraft paper, clearly visible in the photo of the roll: peel it off gradually as you fit the panel. First clean and dry the wall, because dust and damp reduce grip. Measure the area, draw a level line in pencil and cut the panel with a sharp craft knife and a metal ruler. With a 2 m long panel, fit it with two people. If it arrives compressed, open it and leave it one or two days in a ventilated place, as the supplier advises. An honest tip: a strong adhesive can take some paint off when removed.

Six colours and two thicknesses: how to choose

The colours are black, blue, red, grey, purple and yellow, all available in both thicknesses. The photos show one roll per colour: the purple tends towards mauve pink, so bear that in mind if colour matters to you. On screen the colours may look slightly different from the real ones. To cover a wall wider than 50 cm, join several panels of the same colour and thickness, and order them together. The thickness determines how far the panel sticks out from the wall: 2 cm or 3.5 cm.

Where to use acoustic foam with bumps

The supplier lists it for wall decoration at home. In a room with many hard surfaces, such as floors, glass and smooth walls, sound bounces and creates echo: a sound-absorbing panel absorbs part of it. You can use it in the bedroom, the living room or a home office, even just on a strip of wall. An important point: the panel reduces echo inside the room. It does not stop noise from outside, such as neighbours or traffic.

How many panels do I need for a wall?

Each panel covers about 1 m² (50 × 200 cm). Divide the area you want to cover by 1: a 3 × 2.5 m wall, that is 7.5 m², needs 8 panels. You do not have to cover the whole wall: you can clad only the part you want, for example a strip behind the desk or above the bed. Remember that the width and length are fixed: 50 and 200 cm.

Is it normal for the panel to arrive squashed?

The supplier warns that, because of its size, the panel is shipped in a compressed pack and may arrive deformed. Open it and leave it for one to two days in a ventilated place: according to the supplier, it regains its shape. If the relief is still flat after a few days, contact us before fitting it.

Will it stop the neighbours' noise?

No. It is a sound-absorbing panel: it reduces echo inside the room, but it does not stop noise coming in from outside. Reducing noise through a wall needs other materials and building work. The supplier gives no verifiable acoustic values, so we do not state them: we present it as a sound-absorbing and decorative panel for a room.

Which thickness should I choose, 2 or 3.5 cm?

The supplier gives no verifiable data on the acoustic effect of the two thicknesses, so we make no promise of a difference in performance. The thickness determines how far the panel sticks out from the wall: 2 cm or 3.5 cm. Choose according to the space you have, for example near doors and windows, and according to the look you prefer.
