3D wall panels

3D wall panels give a plain wall relief with diamond patterns, wave patterns or textured surfaces, almost all in a 30 × 30 cm format. Several models are self-adhesive PVC and go up without glue.

For other options, see the peel and stick wall panels or the whole collection of decorative wall panels.

3D decorative wall panels: the patterns you will find

Fitted side by side, 3D wall panels form a three-dimensional wall covering: the relief creates shadows and gives the wall depth. In this collection there are three main patterns: diamond, with sloping faces and sharp edges; wave, with curved lines; and textured, with a worked surface you notice mostly when the light comes from the side. The other models, including a modern set of 12 pieces, have designs you will see in the photos on each product page.

Most of the panels measure 30 × 30 cm and one measures 30.5 × 30.5 cm: it is a size that is easy to handle even if you work alone. For a relief that recalls stone or brick, see the stone and brick effect panels.

How to choose 3D wall panels

Before the pattern, decide on material, type of fitting and quantity: the work ahead of you and the final cost depend on these three choices. If you prefer wood grain to a geometric pattern, go to the wood effect panels.

  • Material: some of the models are PVC; for the others, check the material on the product page.
  • Fitting: there are self-adhesive peel and stick panels and one model with adhesive tape included; for the others, check on the product page how they are fixed.
  • Quantity: there are sets of 10, 12 and 20 pieces and a set of 10 PVC sheets; work out the square metres before you order.
  • Colour: if you want a specific one, choose the wave model, which can be painted after it is fitted.

3D PVC wall panels as a wall covering

PVC is a plastic material, and it is the material of several 3D panels in this collection. The practical advantage is that a good share of the PVC models are 3D self-adhesive wall panels: no glue, no drilling, and you can work row by row. For edge cuts use a sharp utility knife with a metal ruler; for cleaning, a barely damp cloth is enough.

Among the PVC models there are self-adhesive panels of 30 × 30 cm, a peel and stick set of 10 sheets, a diamond set of 10 pieces and a textured version for interiors. If you are looking for a marble effect, see the PVC panels for bathroom and kitchen.

Decorative 3D panels for interior walls: where to fit them

In the living room, the classic spot is the wall behind the sofa or the TV unit: even a single strip of panels gives depth, and a light from the side brings out the relief. If you need decorative 3D panels for the bedroom, the most suitable place is the headboard wall, where the textured models or a set of 30 × 30 cm look good; for a more classic headboard design there are the wall mouldings.

The entrance hall, corridor, office and playroom are other suitable places: they are walls you glance at in passing, and the relief makes them less anonymous. In the bathroom use a PVC model and keep it away from direct shower splashes. If you also want to decorate overhead, there are the decorative ceiling panels.

How to fit 3D wall panels on the wall

The wall must be dry, smooth and firm: on crumbling plaster or flaking paint the adhesive will not grip, and if you have just painted, wait until the colour is fully dry. Then proceed as follows.

  • Clean the wall of dust and grease and let it dry.
  • Try out the layout on the floor: you will see the complete pattern before sticking the first piece.
  • With a spirit level and a pencil, draw the line of the first row: if it starts crooked, the others will be too.
  • On self-adhesive models, remove the film and press from the centre towards the edges; on the model with tape, use the tape supplied, and on the others a mounting adhesive suitable for the material.
  • Trim the edge pieces and the cut-outs for sockets with a utility knife and a metal ruler.

3D wall panel care: cleaning and maintenance

Dust settles in the hollows of the relief. From time to time run a feather duster or a soft brush over them; on the PVC models you can also use a barely damp cloth with a little neutral detergent. Avoid abrasive sponges and solvents, which can damage the surface.

If a corner lifts, press it down for a few seconds or add a dab of mounting adhesive. Keep any whole panels left over from fitting: they will let you replace a damaged piece without having to look for the same model again.

How much 3D wall panels cost and how many you need

For the calculation, multiply the width of the wall by its height. A panel of 30 × 30 cm covers 0.09 m², so you need a little over 11 for one square metre. On a wall of 3 × 2.7 m, that is 8.1 m², you need 90 panels; with 10% extra for cuts and waste you reach about 100 pieces.

In this collection the price depends on the model and the number of pieces. To compare two options, divide the price by the square metres covered: a set of 20 pieces of 30 × 30 cm covers 1.8 m², one of 12 pieces about 1.08 m². Delivery is tracked, the maximum delivery time for your country is shown on each product page before you buy, and you can return your order within 30 days.

Frequently asked questions

What are 3D wall panels?

They are wall panels with a raised pattern, for example diamond, wave or a textured surface: with light they create shadows and give a plain wall depth. They are fitted side by side like tiles, normally in a 30 × 30 cm format, and they are decorative. You can cover a whole wall or just a strip, for example behind the sofa.

How do I fix 3D PVC panels to the wall?

If the panel is self-adhesive, remove the protective film and press it firmly, starting from the centre, onto a clean, dry, smooth wall. For models without adhesive you need a mounting adhesive compatible with PVC, applied in dabs or beads on the back. In both cases you do not need to drill the wall; for edge cuts use a utility knife with a metal ruler.

Can 3D panels be fitted on a damp wall?

No, the cause of the damp has to be dealt with first. On a damp wall, or one with crumbling plaster, the adhesive will not grip, and covering the stain hides the problem without removing it. Once the wall is sound and dry you can fit the panels; in the bathroom choose a PVC model and keep it out of the shower area.

Which are the cheapest wall coverings?

In this collection the most affordable 3D panels are the self-adhesive ones. They also save on fitting, because you put them up yourself, without glue or special tools. To compare properly, do not look only at the price: check how many pieces the pack contains and how many square metres they cover.

Can 3D panels be painted?

It depends on the model. The 30 × 30 cm wave panel is sold as paintable: you can paint it after fitting in the same colour as the wall, for a tone-on-tone effect, or in a different shade. Use a short-pile roller for the flat parts and a brush for the hollows. For the other models, check the product page before painting.

Can 3D panels be used outdoors?

The models in this collection are decorative 3D panels for indoor use, intended for the living room, bedroom, entrance hall, corridor and office. Outdoors, sun, frost and rain put the material and the adhesive to the test, so we do not recommend them for balconies, façades or fences. Indoors you can also fit them on plasterboard, as long as it has been treated with filler, and is smooth and clean.
