Dark wood effect vinyl wrap: sizes and material

The material is PVC and the design reproduces a dark wood grain in one colour. The vinyl is sold on a roll in two widths: 55 cm, with lengths of 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 8 and 10 m, and 40 cm, with lengths of 1, 2, 3 and 5 m.

To work out how much area a roll covers, multiply the width by the length: 55 cm by 2 m is about 1.1 m², and 40 cm by 5 m is 2 m². The supplier does not state the thickness.

How to fit the adhesive vinyl

The supplier presents it as a self-adhesive vinyl that peels and sticks, easy to fit and suitable for DIY, but it does not describe the fitting step by step. The general advice for adhesive vinyl therefore applies.

Clean and degrease the surface, and let it dry.
Measure and cut the vinyl, leaving a margin of a few centimetres.
Peel off the backing little by little, and press from the centre out to the edges to push out the air.
Trim the excess once the vinyl is in place, using a craft knife with a sharp blade.

On a painted surface, the adhesive can damage the paint when you peel it off, so test first in a hidden corner.

Dark wood effect in one colour

The colour is one only, dark wood effect, with a clear grain that in the photos runs from brown to almost black. Only the width and length of the roll change. The supplier describes a classic style. As with any imitation, the effect is that of wood: the vinyl is not real wood.

The real shade may look a little different from the photos, because of the light and the screen. If you need to cover several surfaces, order all the vinyl at once: rolls from different batches may have slightly different shades.

Where to use the wood effect vinyl

The supplier recommends it for furniture and doors, worktops and kitchen shelves, and lists kitchen, bedroom, study and living room among the rooms. The supplier's photos show a kitchen with dark wood effect doors and rooms (hallway, bedroom, staircase, living room) with large dark walls of the same look. The supplier does not explain how those walls are covered, so if you want it for walls, contact us and confirm before ordering.

For shelves and worktops, take some care: the supplier does not state temperature limits, so do not place hot pans directly on the vinyl and wipe up spilt liquids straight away.

What is the difference between the 40 and 55 cm widths?

Only the roll width changes. With 55 cm the lengths run from 1 to 10 m; with 40 cm from 1 to 5 m. Choose the width according to the area: if a door or shelf fits in one strip, you avoid joins. The colour and pattern are the same.

How much vinyl do I need for a shelf?

Measure the area and add a few centimetres per side for cutting. For example, a shelf 50 cm wide and 150 cm long is covered by a 1.5 m strip from a 55 cm wide roll: then choose the 2 m length. If the surface is wider than the roll, you will need to lay two strips side by side.

Can I apply it over a painted surface?

The supplier does not state which surfaces are suitable. In general, adhesive vinyl grips better on smooth, clean and dry surfaces. On a painted surface, the adhesive can damage the paint when you peel it off, so test first in a hidden corner. On rough or dirty surfaces the grip is less secure.
