PVC wall panels

PVC panels for interior walls cover the wall with no building work and are cleaned with a damp cloth: handy in the bathroom and the kitchen. There are marble effect, 3D diamond, brick effect and wood effect models, almost all self-adhesive.

For other finishes, see the decorative wall panels and the peel and stick wall panels.

PVC wall panels: which models you will find

These PVC wall panels work as a PVC cladding for interior walls: they are fitted over the wall you already have, without demolishing tiles or plaster. In the collection you will find:

  • marble effect: glossy white panels of 60 × 30 cm, PVC wall panels and foam models;
  • 3D diamond: squares of 30 × 30 or 30.5 × 30.5 cm in sets of 10 or 12, also found among the 3D wall panels;
  • other models: 3D sheets and peel and stick squares, both in sets of 10, textured panels and textured foam strips of 40 × 300 cm;
  • brick effect: self-adhesive relief models, also white and removable; others are among the stone and brick effect panels;
  • wood effect: self-adhesive 3D models in vinyl or PVC, one in retro style of 3.2 mm.

Marble effect PVC panels: sizes and finishes

In decorative marble effect panels the veining is reproduced on PVC or on foam: you get the look of stone without fitting real slabs. The glossy white model measures 60 × 30 cm, is 2 mm thick and comes in a pack of 20 pieces, that is, 3.6 m².

The marble effect foam strip, with relief, measures 40 × 300 cm: fitted vertically it covers in one piece a wall up to 3 metres high, with fewer joins. Then there is a foam model made for the splashback, while the marble effect PVC wall panels are suitable for both the bathroom and the kitchen.

How to choose decorative PVC panels for interior walls

Start from the material. In the collection there are PVC panels, PVC foam panels and, for one wood effect model, vinyl. If you want a wall in relief, look at the 3D diamond or textured models; for wood grain also compare the wood effect wall panels.

Then choose the size. The 30 × 30 cm squares build designs or cover small areas, such as a niche; the 60 × 30 cm panels and the 40 × 300 cm strips cover a whole wall with fewer joins. Almost all the models are self-adhesive and are peel and stick; if you rent, choose the one marked as removable. On the 3D diamond and textured models, check on the product page how they are fixed.

PVC wall panels for bathroom and kitchen: where to fit them

As PVC bathroom wall panels, the decorative models go well on the washbasin wall, behind the sanitaryware or over old tiles, if they are smooth and well fixed. In the shower area, no: no model in the collection is suitable for that use. To cover just a strip, also consider the self-adhesive tiles for the bathroom.

As wall cladding for the kitchen, the panels go well above all on the splashback, the strip between the worktop and the wall units. Keep them away from the hob, because heat deforms plastic and weakens the glue. Behind the sink you can also use the self-adhesive tiles for the kitchen. In the living room and the bedroom the 3D, diamond or textured models are mostly used.

How to stick PVC panels on the wall

For the self-adhesive models you need no glue or drill: a tape measure, a spirit level, a utility knife with a new blade and a clean cloth are enough.

  • clean and degrease the wall or tiles and let them dry: the adhesive grips on smooth, dry, compact surfaces;
  • draw a horizontal line with the spirit level for the first row, which decides the alignment of the whole wall;
  • peel the protective film back little by little, place the panel on the line and press from the centre towards the edges;
  • join the pieces following the design and trim with the utility knife next to sockets and corners;
  • on the ceiling use only the models marked for that use and work as a pair; to decorate only the ceiling there are the decorative ceiling panels.

Cleaning and damp walls: what to know before fitting

To clean them, a soft cloth with warm water and a little neutral soap is enough. Avoid alcohol, solvents, bleach and abrasive sponges, which can dull glossy finishes. On foam, dab at stains without rubbing and from time to time press the edges down again near the washbasin.

Many people look for PVC panels for damp walls to hide stains and mould. It is not a solution: these panels do not stop mould or halt damp. If the wall has dark stains, salt stains or crumbling plaster, the damage continues under the panel and the adhesive comes off. First find the cause, let the wall dry and repair the surface.

PVC panel prices and how many you need

The price depends on the model and the size: the marble effect foam strip of 40 × 300 cm is the most affordable option, and the textured wall panels and the 3D diamond sets are the most expensive. To compare, work out the price per square metre: divide the price by the area each pack covers; for example, the 20 marble effect panels of 60 × 30 cm cover 3.6 m². Delivery is tracked, the maximum delivery time for your country is shown on each product page before you buy, and you can return your order within 30 days.

For the number of pieces, calculate the square metres. A panel of 60 × 30 cm covers 0.18 m²: for a splashback 2.4 m long and 60 cm high (1.44 m²) you need 8, plus one spare for cuts: one pack is enough. The strips of 40 × 300 cm, fitted vertically, cover 40 cm of width each: for a wall 2 m wide you need 5.

Frequently asked questions

Is PVC a plastic material?

Yes. PVC stands for polyvinyl chloride, one of the plastics most used in construction and furniture. In this collection you will find it in panels and sheets, in PVC foam, that is, expanded, and in the vinyl of one wood effect model, which belongs to the same family of materials. From one model to another the thickness, relief and finish change, not the nature of the material.

Can PVC panels be fitted in the shower?

Not inside the shower area. There water hits the wall every day and seeps between one panel and another, and no model in the collection is suitable for that use. Use them on the other bathroom walls, away from the spray: behind the washbasin, behind the sanitaryware, around the mirror. For the inside of the shower area you need coverings fixed with specific adhesives and sealants.

Can PVC panels be stuck over tiles?

Yes, if the tiles are smooth, well fixed and free of cracks. Wash them with a degreaser, rinse and wait until they are dry, including the grout lines. With the thinnest panels, such as the 2 mm ones, deep grout lines can show as small grooves: in that case fill them first with filler and let it dry well.

How long do PVC panels last?

It depends on the fitting and where you put them. On a sound, dry wall away from heat sources, a well-stuck panel stays in place for a long time and keeps its look if you clean it with mild products. They last less where water runs every day, behind the hob or on damp walls, because the adhesive is the first to give way.

Can PVC panels be fitted on the ceiling?

Only the models marked for that use, such as the self-adhesive wood effect vinyl panels. The ceiling must be smooth, clean and dry like a wall. Work as a pair: one person holds the panel in place and the other peels the protective film and presses from the centre towards the edges. For the other models read the product page before ordering.

Can PVC panels be removed without damaging the wall?

Some, such as the white brick effect panels, are marked as removable. To peel them off, pull slowly, with the panel almost parallel to the wall; a hair dryer on a low setting softens the adhesive. On well-bonded washable paint traces of glue may remain, which usually come off with warm water and neutral soap. On old paint or paint that sheds dust, some colour may come off too.
