Glow in the dark ceiling stars: formats and sizes

Each order contains one format, the one you choose from the four options. There are 144 stars of 1 cm, 72 of 1.5 cm, 50 of 2 cm and 32 of 2.5 cm: the smaller the star, the more there are. The figure in centimetres is the size of one star, as shown in the supplier's diagram, where the stars of each format are laid out on a rectangular sheet of 20 × 10 cm. In daylight the stars are a light green tending towards yellow; in the dark the green becomes luminous. The supplier does not state the material, the thickness or how long the glow lasts, so we do not give these details.

How to apply the self-adhesive stars

The back of each star is self-adhesive: peel it from the sheet and press it onto the surface, as in the photo, where it rests on a light switch plate. The supplier gives no further instructions, so the steps below are general tips. Clean and dry the wall before you start: dust and moisture reduce grip, and adhesive grips better on a smooth surface. On a freshly painted wall, let the paint dry fully. For a ceiling, draw a light pencil guide and apply the stars one by one, pressing for a few seconds. A word of honest advice: peeling an adhesive from a painted wall can take some paint with it, so test in an inconspicuous corner first.

Four formats for a starry sky

The difference between the formats is the number and size of the stars. With the 1 cm ones you get 144, useful for a dense effect of small glowing dots. With the 2.5 cm ones you get 32, which are larger and easier to notice from a distance. The 1.5 cm and 2 cm formats sit in between. The photos show stars of different sizes used together, for example one large star beside many small ones. If you want a similar arrangement, order several formats and mix them on the wall.

Where to use glow in the dark stars

The supplier suggests them for children's rooms, bedrooms and living rooms. The photos show them on a room ceiling, on a wall above a bed, next to a light switch and along a staircase. The glow is only noticeable in low light, so they make most sense where the light is dimmed or switched off at night. The supplier does not state how long the effect lasts, so we give no times. If you apply them in a child's room, remember they are small adhesive pieces and should be placed by an adult.

Do the stars glow straight away, or do they need to absorb light?

According to the supplier, they absorb light during the day and give it back in the dark as a faint glow. It does not state how much light is needed or how long the glow lasts, so we cannot give a time. In a room that is very dark during the day, the stars receive less light, so bear this in mind when choosing where to place them.

Which format should I choose?

It depends on the effect you want. The 1 cm format has 144 stars and gives a dense effect; the 2.5 cm format has 32 stars, which are larger and more visible from a distance. The 1.5 cm (72 stars) and 2 cm (50 stars) formats sit in between. You can also order several formats and use them together.

Can they be peeled off and stuck back on?

The supplier mentions only the self-adhesive back, so we cannot guarantee that they can be repositioned without marks. Peeling a sticker off a painted wall may take some paint with it or leave a residue. If you want to be careful, test first with a star in an inconspicuous spot.

How much area do they cover?

It depends on how you place them. The supplier's diagram shows the stars of one format laid out on a 20 × 10 cm sheet, which is 200 cm², but on the ceiling or wall you can space them as widely as you like. For a large, dense area you may need more than one order, so count the number of stars, not just the size.

Are they suitable for a children's room?

The supplier suggests them for children's rooms, bedrooms and living rooms. They are small adhesive pieces: an adult should apply them, and while children are young, they should be kept out of reach. The supplier gives no information on the safety of the materials, so we make no claims about it.
