Beaded wooden moulding: size and material
The pack contains 10 identical mouldings with no accessories. Each measures about 40 cm long, 1.4 cm wide and 0.7 cm thick: the beads follow one after another and the flat back rests on the surface. Laid in a row, the 10 pieces give 4 metres of edging, enough for the front of four shelves one metre long. The supplier states the wood is beech, left raw: unvarnished and unwaxed, with the natural grain visible. The measurements are approximate, as the supplier notes, and each piece may vary slightly in tone.
How to fit the semicircular moulding
The flat back of the moulding rests on the surface and the beads remain visible. The supplier does not state a fixing method and the pack includes no accessories: you can use white wood glue, assembly adhesive or fine brads. First measure the length you want to edge and cut the moulding with a fine-toothed saw, preferably between one bead and the next, so the end is clean. For corners, cut at 45° with a mitre box. After gluing, keep the moulding pressed with masking tape until the glue sets. If you want to paint it, it is easier to do so before fitting.
Raw beech wood: how to finish the moulding
Beech arrives without any finish, so you decide how it looks. First run fine sandpaper over the cut ends and any rough edges. Then you can choose a protective finish or a wax to show the grain, an acrylic paint to colour it, or the same enamel as the furniture you fit it to. The beads have many curves: use a small brush and thin coats, so you do not fill the gaps between one bead and the next. Some photos show the mouldings coloured: this is an example of a finish, because the product arrives in natural wood.
Beaded mouldings on furniture, shelves and desks
The moulding adds relief to flat surfaces. In the photos you see it along the edge of a desk and wall shelves, on the front of a sideboard, on kitchen units, on white furniture and around a door. Other ideas: the outline of a mirror or a frame, the edge of a headboard, the flat doors of a wardrobe, or a handmade tray or box. Left natural, it goes well with light wood and Scandinavian style; painted the same colour as the furniture it creates a subtle detail, and in a different colour it becomes a noticeable feature.

Frequently asked questions
How many mouldings do I need for a piece of furniture?
Measure the perimeter you want to edge and divide it by 40 cm. For the front of an 80 × 60 cm piece of furniture you need 2.8 metres: two whole pieces for each long side and two pieces cut to 30 cm for each short side, that is 8 mouldings. One pack is enough, with two left over.
What wood is it made of?
The supplier states beech wood, left raw. The photos show the grain even on the cut end. As with any natural wood, the pieces may vary a little in tone and grain: this shows if you leave them natural or treat them with wax, and it is hidden if you paint them.
Can it be bent over a curved surface?
The moulding is not made to bend: if you force it, the thin point between one bead and the next may break. For a wide curve you can cut it into short segments, between one bead and the next, and place them along the line. For tight curves, a flexible profile is needed.
Can it be used in the kitchen or the bathroom?
In the kitchen, yes, on doors and furniture, as in the photos. But raw wood absorbs water and stains: protect it with a suitable varnish or sealer before use, and keep it away from sink splashes and shower steam.
