Scalloped wooden mouldings: size and material
The pack contains 6 identical pieces, each 40 cm long. Laid one after another, they cover 2.4 linear metres. One side is straight and sits against the edge you want to decorate; the other is cut into regular semicircles. The material is light wood, left unfinished, without varnish or coating. The supplier does not state the height of the strip, its thickness or the type of wood, that is, whether it is solid wood, plywood or MDF. If these measurements matter for your project, write to us before ordering and we will check them. To decorate longer runs, order more packs and join the pieces into a single row.
How to fit scalloped wooden mouldings on shelves and furniture
The pack contains no adhesive, and the supplier does not say how to fix the strips. On unfinished wood, PVA wood glue works. On lacquered or varnished furniture and on a smooth wall, a mounting adhesive or double-sided mounting tape is more suitable. Clean and degrease the edge of the shelf, run a fine bead of glue along the back of the strip and press it on with the straight side aligned with the edge. Hold it with masking tape until the glue grips, then fit the next piece. To shorten the last one, use a fine-toothed saw, cut where two semicircles meet and sand the cut smooth with fine sandpaper.
Scalloped wooden moulding for painting: the effect on furniture
The scalloped edge softens the straight lines of furniture and shelves, and recalls the scalloped trim of a curtain. In the photos it is painted the same light blue as the furniture, under the drawers of a desk and on the front of three shelves, so it looks like part of the piece. You could also choose a contrasting colour, for example white on a dark piece, or leave the wood natural with a wax. Before painting, rub it with fine sandpaper and wipe off the dust. Then apply an acrylic paint or water-based enamel in two thin coats. It is worth painting the strips before fitting them, so you can cover the curved edges well. The blue in the photos is just one example.
Where to use scalloped wooden mouldings
The photos show two uses: the front of wall shelves and the lower edge of a desk. The same mouldings can be glued to the front of a bookcase, a bedside table or a chest of drawers, along the edge of a shelf in a children's room, around a mirror or as a decorative strip on a wall. With 6 pieces you cover 2.4 metres: for example, two shelves of 120 cm, or three shelves of 80 cm, with 2 pieces each. These are unfinished wooden decorations: keep them away from the shower, the bath and the hob, because the supplier gives no resistance to water or heat.

Frequently asked questions
Are they pre-painted?
No. The mouldings come in unfinished, light-coloured wood, without varnish. The blue you see on the shelves and desk in the photos is an example of a finish. You can paint them with an acrylic paint or water-based enamel after light sanding, or leave them natural with a coat of wax or clear varnish.
How tall are they?
The supplier only gives the length, 40 cm per piece, and does not give the height or thickness. If you need the exact measurement, for example to line up the scalloped edge with the front of a thin shelf, write to us before ordering. We will ask the supplier and reply with a verified figure.
Can they be cut?
Yes, with a fine-toothed saw. Cut where two semicircles meet: the edge stays even and the last piece looks whole. Hold the strip firmly on the work surface, cut without forcing it, and run fine sandpaper over the cut to remove splinters.
Which glue should I use?
On unfinished wood, PVA wood glue works. On lacquered or varnished furniture and smooth walls, a mounting adhesive or double-sided mounting tape is more suitable. Glue is not included: choose one suited to the surface, and test it first in a hidden corner, especially on furniture that was lacquered or varnished recently.
